68-year-old Male Life-Expectancy Reduced Due to Delayed Recurrent Liver Cancer Diagnosis

Type of Injury: Medical Malpractice (Federal Tort Claims Act)

Type of Case: Settlement

Settlement Amount: $300,000

On October 11, 2017, M-68 died as a result of the negligent care and treatment he received at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The cause of death was hepatocellular carcinoma (“HCC”) (i.e., liver cancer). On or about July 14, 2017, M-68 was told that clinicians missed a diagnosis of recurrent liver cancer in July 2015, which resulted in a 6-month delay in his care and treatment. Moreover, the aforementioned delay likely resulted in hastening of his death and that earlier treatment may have lead to prolonged survival.

M-68 was survived by his wife and three adult children.

The above summary is specific to a particular case and is not intended as a projected outcome on any other matter.
